1st TNT MEETING Thyroid Nodule Therapies

1st International Meeting on Thyroid Ultrasound-Guided, Minimally Invasive Therapies
Reggio Emilia
 (Italy) November 15 - November 16, 2019

1st TNT MEETING Thyroid Nodule Therapies

The 1st TNT Meeting is a timely, much-needed clinical update on new, minimally invasive, echo-guided therapies of thyroid nodules. The talks and format of the meeting are excellent. Speakers are carefully selected and mostly known for their expertise in special areas.

The Meeting venue “Ruote da Sogno” (Dream Wheels) in Reggio Emilia (Italy), a town situated in the heart of the “Motor Valley” and “Food Valley” territory, offers a broad workshop space with all Meeting facilities.

RATIONALE
Minimally invasive, ultrasound (US)-guided thyroid treatment modalities are becoming effective and safe alternatives to surgery in patients with benign thyroid cysts, solid nonfunctioning benign thyroid nodules that grow or become symptomatic, and in solid hyper-functioning nodules. In addition, they may also have an effective complementary role in the management of primary micropapillary tumors or recurrent thyroid cancers.
These procedures include the use of chemical agents such as Ethanol Ablation (EA), or thermal thyroid tissue destruction through Laser Ablation (LA), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), Microwave Ablation (MWA) and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). Current claims are that EA, RFA, MWA and HIFU show comparable results. However this item is still debated, and different minimally invasive approaches may have distinct indications and outcomes.
At this meeting, the first session will give a framework of thyroid nodule issues, whereas in the following sessions first-class experts will chair outstanding speakers who will present the stateof-the-art of all ultrasound-guided thyroid minimally invasive procedures.
Hands-on practice will also be available on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2019, for those participants who want to try thermal ablation devices on their own.

ENDOCRINOLOGIST SPECIALIST IN THYROID DISEASES INTERVENTIONAL THYROIDOLOGIST

Roberto Valcavi, MD, FACE worked on Endocrine Neck (Thyroid, Parathyroid, Lymph-Nodes) Ultrasound since 1986. He developed Thyroid and Neck Diagnostic Ultrasound and all Ultrasound-Related diagnostic (FNA, Fine Needle Aspiration) and therapeutic techniques for benign cystic (PEI; Percutaneous Ethanol Injection) and solid nodules (thermal ablation with laser or radiofrequency). These interventional techniques, in selected patients, may avoid surgery. His main research and teaching areas are thyroid nodule, thyroid tumors, and parathyroid adenomas. He is author of numerous papers indexed on pubmed and reviewer for several European and North American Endocrine Journals. He is in the panel of authors of AACE-ACE-AME guidelines for thyroid nodule.

INTERVENTIONAL THYROIDOLOGIST WITH EXPERTISE IN
Ultrasound-guided FNA biopsies since 1992, more than 30 thousands FNA performed
Ethanol ablation of thyroid cysts since 1996, more than 500 percutaneous ethanol injections performed
Thyroid laser ablation since 2002, more than 850 laser treatments performed
Radiofrequency thyroid ablation since 2012,  more than 300 RFA treatments performed
